Reverend Charisma Canty, currently serves as an associate minister at First African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church of Manassas, VA. Here she leads monthly women’s bible studies, coordinates ministerial staff assignments, and assists with young adult ministry. She previously served as the Minister to Young Adults at First AME Church of Alexandria, Virginia, where she used creative, energetic faith forums, worship services, spiritual retreats, and other events to minister to all ages. Rev. Canty also volunteers as a youth ministry aide, choir member, church school teacher, and worship leader whenever possible. She previously served in similar roles at Wayman Memorial AME Church in Baltimore, MD, where she received her license to preach in November 2006. She was ordained an Itinerant Deacon in 2010 and an Itinerant Elder in 2017.

Rev. Canty received her Master’s of Divinity degree from The John Leland Center for Theological Studies in Arlington, VA. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with honors from Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina. While in Elizabeth City, Rev. Canty was the Minister to Youth at Powerhouse Church of Redemption, a campus bible study leader, and noted for many academic accomplishments.

Rev. Canty has ministered cross-culturally and internationally as a former youth minister to the International Ethiopian Evangelical Church – Woodbridge Campus and as a former missionary to Panama with the North Star Network. She previously served in other leadership roles for the Washington Conference Richard Allen Young Adult Council (RAYAC), the Leland Student Association, the Essence of Praise Gospel Choir, and Elevation. She is an alumnus of Uptick, a Christian leadership program by Spence Network, and she currently serves as the Herstoriographer for the Washington Conference Women in Ministry.

As an experienced Social Services Specialist with Fairfax County Government, Rev. Canty has a history of serving diverse communities both in professional and ministry settings. In her free time, she enjoys singing with the Souls4Real Community Choir, traveling, relaxing at spas, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Rev. Canty is the proud daughter of the late Rev. Courtney D. Canty and Rev. Robin Canty Rolle. Most known for her peaceful and joyous countenance, she strives to model her favorite Bible verse,  James 3:17, which states, “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”
